Brian Boyd Director of the VT Community Foundation will be stepping in to fill the void for the time being.
What training IS available for Afterschool? There is a need for more training targeting Afterschool/ youth workers. 300 people attended the Youth Workers Conference /with a waitlist
How is the field of Youth Work defined? Community education, Education, Community Development, Youth Development, Afterschool, School Age Care.
A career path for professionals that work with children and youth is being developed at the State level with core competencies and a credentialing process similar to STARS. What are the challenges for providers to access training? Time, $, and commitment, and knowing what is available. Northern Lights Career Development Center has a training category on its website, which links to Building Bright Futures to post trainings (currently early education, but could be expanded for Afterschool) We need a community-based continuum of training.
