VOOST Mapping Project

(updated: 11/8/07)
Cornerstone Grant
Vermont was chosen as one of five demonstration states by the National Collaboration for Youth to participate in the National Career Pathways Project.   This project is designed to convene a “community of practice” to share systems that include incentives, credentials, and compensation to improve career pathways for afterschool and youth workers.  In Vermont, this one year grant brings together key partners to work on three deliverables that include Higher Education, Career Lattice and Core Competencies.  VOOST, WCYSB/B&GC (fiscal agent), Child Development Division, Goddard College, Northern Lights CDC,  Children’s Trust Foundation, DOE, Child Care Industry and Careers Council, GBYMCA, and Orleans County. SU are partnering on this effort.  For more information about this project contact barbara@voost.org or ruth.matthews@ahs.state.vt.us

More than 300 afterschool advocates and 60 youth came to Washington, D.C. for the Afterschool for All Challenge to let our federal lawmakers know that afterschool is key to kids’ success. In addition to honoring afterschool supporters at the Breakfast of Champions, your colleagues from around the country met with Members of Congress and their staff, making sure that afterschool is a priority in this Congress.

Our delegation from Vermont included Trevor Tait, VT Coalition of Teen Centers, Barbara Christie-Garvin, VT Out of School Time Network, Patty Amones, Kidwatch and three sixth grade students from Berlin Elementary School, Ashley Gant, Shannon Thibeault and Kristen Keene who brought the story of afterschool to life to Senator Sanders, Representative Peter Welch, and Chris Saunders and Caitlin McPherran Senator Leahy’s staffers..
